I-24 exits around Jasper
From the I-24 exit list: exit 152 is US-64 east and US-72 to US-41 toward Kimball and South Pittsburg. Exit 155 is SR 28 toward Jasper and Dunlap. Exit 158 is SR 27 east toward Nickajack Dam and Powells Crossroads. Exit 161 is SR 156 toward Haletown and New Hope. Between 158 and 161 the interstate crosses Nickajack Lake on the Holman J. Walker Bridge. Tell us the exit number and direction.
Through town
US-72 runs along Main Street and meets SR 150 at the courthouse square. US-64 and US-41 both run concurrently with US-72 through Jasper, and SR 28 intersects US-72 in southeastern Jasper as part of the main north-south route in the valley. Locally SR 150 is Betsy Pack Drive at the courthouse square. SR 150 leads northwest toward the Grundy County area on the Plateau. Say which of these you are on.
The Monteagle grade
West of Jasper, Monteagle Mountain is one of the hardest truck grades on I-24. Eastbound, the descent is about 4.5 miles at 6% with a maximum of 6.9% near the bottom, dropping 1,161 feet. Speed limits are 55 mph, or 45 for trucks. Two runaway truck ramps are on the left side of the eastbound descent, and a truck inspection station sits at the top. Westbound, the climb is about 4.5 miles at 5%, rising 778 feet, and Wikipedia notes sharp curves in deep rock cuts prone to rockfall on the westbound descent. Trucks coming down eastbound end up in Marion County at the bottom.
Water and valley
The Sequatchie River flows just east of town and empties into the Tennessee River at the town's southeastern boundary. Nickajack Dam, on the Tennessee River near Jasper, creates Nickajack Lake, and Hales Bar Dam was built between 1905 and 1913 before TVA replaced it. Marion County had 28,837 people in 2020, and coal and iron mining once dominated its economy.
The corridor around Jasper
Other Marion County towns on the maps include Kimball, South Pittsburg, Whitwell and Monteagle. I-24 also briefly crosses into Georgia on a 4.10-mile segment near the northern end of I-59, east of here. Coal and iron mining once dominated the county economy, with mines at Whitwell and Inman and iron smelters at South Pittsburg. Trucks serving the valley today share the same roads, so a breakdown at the courthouse square and one at an interstate ramp are very different calls. Say which one you are on.

Which exit do I give for Jasper?
I-24 exit 155 (SR 28 toward Jasper and Dunlap).
What do I say if I used a runaway truck ramp on Monteagle?
